Dan and I drove up Logan Canyon yesterday and explored the back country from one of the many side roads from the canyon. It snowed several days ago and because it's been so cold, snow is still covering everything in the canyon. We drove about 3/4 of the way up before turning down some obscure little side road that Dan took his truck on last winter.
I guess Dan and one of his old roommates went up the canyon to test how well his truck does in the snow. Well, Dan has a 2007 Nissan Titan and, as you can imagine, it did extremely well in the cold weather. It did so well, in fact, that a picture of his truck in the snow made it on to our wedding video... we're not even in the picture.

Anyway, so we decided to go back up there. The road to the location in the picture above hadn't been used yet so we ended up taking the road to Franklin Basin. It's was about 4pm and starting to get dark so we kept our eyes out for deer and other animals. We never saw any but we saw tons of tracks. It must have been too cold. The temperature was about 20 degrees and dropped even more when the sun went down. However, we did manage to get some pretty cool pictures before we lost the light.

The canyon had more snow then I expected. There was probably about 2 ft of snow. Some of it had melted but it was still pretty deep. Every stream and pond we came across had a sheet of ice so thin you could still see the water running underneath it. This is the only pond we came across that didn't have ice on it.

We went so far up the road that we even crossed into Idaho. We thought it was funny that they would have a sign about the border in the middle of nowhere.

When we came back down the canyon, the light was almost gone so we spent about 15 minutes doing donuts in a parking lot near the road. We weren't able to get any of the pictures we wanted to on the way back down the canyon but I'm sure we'll go back up again soon.
